Through accident or design, you’ve arrived at the website for Huckleberry Farm Studios. We are Deborah DeWit, artist, and Carl Vandervoort, filmmaker and potter.
Please wander through the results of our 40 year love of image making, past and recent paintings, pastels, photographs, books and films. Here you will also be able to read about the restoration of Huckleberry Farm, the gone wild land and rustic but stately house we purchased in 2009. Although we have moved from there it was a project of creation and love and for 14 years was a central part of both our lives and our careers. We have stayed in the community here on the Oregon Coast having been embraced and shaped by it, as much as by the winds off the Pacific Ocean. The story continues.
For a while we have been working through the difficult decision to leave our beloved home and land on Nehalem Bay which has been such an inspiration to our lives and work for the past 14 years. Growing any older there did not seem possible given the amount of attention the land needed to stay healthy and the house to remain in its lovingly restored condition. It was time to turn it over to new custodians. In April Carl and I moved to a comfortable house in the Manzanita area and put Huckleberry Farm up for sale. Our new home has a great studio space and is close to the beach, forests and river that we love as well as still being in the community we have come to belong to. I will continue to paint, and Carl will continue with projects that come his way. And we will keep the Huckleberry Farm Studios professional name as a reminder of the huge influence that place has had on us personally and artistically.
I’m really happy to announce that I will be having a show of new paintings at White Bird Gallery in Cannon Beach in March of 2024. It may seem like a long way off, but it takes time and intention to create a body of work substantial enough for a gallery exhibit and I’m looking forward to a year of focus.
Thank you for visiting our website. Please email us if you wish to be on our mailing list, or with any questions or comments you might have. Soon we’ll post more information about shows and other news.
And don’t forget to check out the Studio Store if you’re interested in purchasing notecards, prints, books, dvd’s or calendars.
Best Wishes,
Deborah and Carl
